Coe appointed Chair of FIFA Ethics
London 2012 Organising Committee Chair Sebastian Coe has been
appointed as the Chairman of FIFA's new, independent Ethics
Committee.
The new committee will investigate conflicts of interest and
breaches of FIFA rules off the field of play and will work alongside
the existing Disciplinary Committee and Appeal Committee.
FIFA President Sepp Blatter said: "Coe's personality and
integrity, which is renowned the world over, will ensure that
he is the best possible person for this role."
Olympic Park Delivery Partner confirmed
The CLM consortium entered into the Delivery Partner
contract with the Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA), on September 15, 2006, marking
a key step in the progress to 2012.
The confirmation follows a required 10-day standstill period
after CLM was announced as the preferred partner on 30 August.
Made up of CH2M HILL, Laing O'Rourke and Mace, the consortium
holds experience of working on five previous Summer and Winter
Games and is involved in both Beijing 2008 and Vancouver 2010.
David Higgins, ODA Chief Executive said: "The appointment
of CLM as Delivery Partner puts in place another key building
block for the Olympic and Paralympic project.
Public get first bird's eye view of Olympic Park
Members of the public will have their first chance to get a
bird's eye view of the Olympic Park site on the weekend of 15 September 2006, as part
of the annual Open House Festival in London.
At the top of a residential block in Stratford, the official
viewing gallery for the Park's 500 acres has until now only
been open to engineers and VIPs, including the Queen and visiting
dignitaries.
Chair of the London 2012 Organising Committee, Sebastian Coe
said: "This is a fantastic opportunity for people in London,
helping them to put the Olympic Park in context.
Elite coaches pinpointed for 2012
Ten British coaches have been picked to take part in an 'Elite
Coach' scheme designed to help produce top-grade talent for
the 2012 Games.
Run by UK Sport, the course provides intensive, personalised
training to improve both technical and leadership skills, helping
the coaches to be a driving force to success for UK sporting
talent.
Representing a range of sports including Hockey, Sailing and
Athletics, the participants were nominated by their sport's
governing bodies before undergoing a rigorous selection process.
They will have the chance to learn from the best in their field
as well as getting leadership tips from the world of business,
industry and the arts.
